I am Anani Nani, an aspiring entrepreneur and a student of Urban & Regional Planning at Durban University of Technology (DUT). My passion lies in sustainable agriculture and Agri-Tech, which led me to found INAN Aeroponics Farming. My company is dedicated to transforming urban farming through innovative aeroponics systems, with the goal of addressing food security challenges and promoting environmental sustainability by providing fresh, pesticide-free produce to urban communities and businesses in Durban.
Throughout my time at DUT, I have actively engaged in various leadership and development opportunities. I’m a proud participant in the Vuna Leadership Academy and the Green Campus Initiative, where I’ve served both as an Executive Secretary and a Mentor, helping to drive sustainability efforts on campus guided by the Envision 2030.
In addition to these roles, I’ve taken on responsibilities as a Project Officer within the DUT House Committee and as a Mentor in the Architecture Design & Engineering Programme under DUT Community Engagement. These experiences have deepened my leadership skills and my commitment to making a positive impact. Currently, I’m involved in the Innobiz 2024 Incubation Programme, where I’m further developing my entrepreneurial skills and refining my business model. My entrepreneurial journey is also being shaped by experiences like the United States South Africa Virtual Incubator (USSAVI) and the Student Entrepreneurship Design Thinking Program, which have both enriched my understanding of innovation and business.
I’m passionate about shaping the future of urban farming and sustainability, and I’m driven by a desire to inspire and lead in the fields of urban planning and entrepreneurship. My journey is just beginning, and I’m excited to continue making a meaningful impact through my work and my studies.
Aysha Lotter is the Policy and Legal Consultant for the SRI: SA Initiative. She is currently pursuing an interdisciplinary PhD (Private Law & Chemical Engineering) at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Her doctorate focuses on product and material stewardship in South Africa, working towards establishing a circular economy of metals on the African continent.
Chelsea works part-time for Planet Ark's Australian Circular Economy Hub and is also the founder of Circular Economy Pioneers in Australia.

I completed a Master of Science in Environmental Management with the focus on the circular economy at the University of Johannesburg whilst working as project coordinator for a diversity of projects that linked research and societal applications. My experiences reach from multidisciplinary and mix-method research, project management, action plan development to educational facilitator.
Maré de Witt is a Circular Economy Consultant with extensive experience contracting with the ACEN and Circular Vision. Based in Cape Town, she has contributed to policy development, food waste management, and the creation of South Africa's circular economy platform, Circular South Africa. Maré holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Stellenbosch University and a BCom in Economics from UNISA. She has worked as a Research and Development Engineer at The UnSchool of Disruptive Design. Her career highlights include research, policy development, and consultancy roles, with a strong focus on sustainability and systems thinking in various sectors.
Dr Mark Williams-Wynn is the CTO at EWaste Africa. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and has managed numerous projects developing processes for the management of waste streams. He has a strong research background, having published over 20 peer-reviewed research articles.
Breadline Africa is a non-profit organisation focused on early childhood development in under-resourced areas of South Africa, providing infrastructure such as classrooms, libraries, and sanitation facilities. Nthabeleng Ramashoai is the sole female director of Peaceful Africa. I decided to enroll for BA Environmental Management Degree though UNISA because of the passion I have for the environment. I believed that with a better understanding, my contribution to climate mitigation and preservation will be an impactful one.

Im currently pursuing a PhD in the field of Town and regional planning focusing on waste picker integration into sustainable zero waste management practices. I am part of a big influencial project focusing on diversion of organic waste coming from the informal markets of Warwick in Durban and the integration of waste pickers.
My mission is to work towards a better future for our planet and through our work with companies and governments, we are on a journey towards a future where all their plastics can be fully recyclable at source and remanufactured as part of our circular economy, giving old plastic multiple new lives whilst minimalizing consumer habit change. - I think of it as an investment in reusable raw materials as opposed to a single product purchase.
My vision is to create an emerging circular plastic economy for small-scale recycling entrepreneurs, one that will lead to a monetised waste plastic economy that empowers disadvantaged communities across the African continent and the developing world.

He is the Africa Regional Chair for the Private Sector Advisory Group for D4DHUB, a certified ILO Trainer, OACPS Policy Expert. He has an exciting approach to startup building, and ESO support programs, with experience supporting 300+ startup ventures in Africa and beyond.
He is the Co-founder and CEO of Zixtech HUB a Pan-African Support Organization operating in Africa based in Cameroon that has implemented projects and Contracts for AU, EU, AFDB, World Bank, ITC, GIZ, IBM, Visa, Mastercard, AfriLabs, and more.
Circular Economy Strategic Advisor
Piotr is a Belgian/Polish national with over 11 years of experience in circular economy policy development. Currently he is a Circular Economy Program Manager at the African Circular Economy Network (ACEN) Foundation, and a Council Member of the European Environmental Bureau. Previously he worked at the Polish Ministry of the Environment, and Polish Humanitarian Action in South Sudan as a FSL project coordinator, collaborating with FAO, WTO, UNHCR and Caritas. He holds two Master Diplomas in Spatial Management, Environmental Sciences and Geography.
In 2022 he accomplished Leaders for Nature Academy by MAVA Foundation.
His current work at the ACEN Foundation involves strategic development of the circular economy programs in Africa, Circular Economy Roadmaps and Action Plans, roll-out of circular technologies and business models and reinforcing the network of the circular economy experts across the continent. One of the current assignments relates to WIO region on Our Blue Future (OBF) coordinated by GIZ, covering all WIO countries, with a special focus on reinforcing Circular Economy innovation.
He is well networked, sitting in advisory bodies of few organisations, notably the International Council for Circular Economy, Circular Economy Coalition or Relief and Reconciliation. Due to his experience in this field, Piotr is often invited to review policy papers and reports related to waste and circular economy. Piotr gave over 200 presentations world-wide, including high-level parliamentary hearings and academic lectures. He was chairing the Waste Working Group of the EEB in years 2013 -2023. It comprises of local waste management experts across Europe and beyond, with hands-on experience on waste systems, both downstream treatment but also upstream product policy. In this respect it is worth mentioning that in 2016 Piotr co-founded and continues to be a Board Member of the Polish Zero Waste Association, working closely with Zero Waste Europe, Rethink Plastic Alliance and others.
He has been a Jury member of the European Week of Waste Reduction in years 2013-2021, assessing local waste prevention measures across Europe. He also has international experience advising on waste policies in Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Oman, the Balkans and Türkiye.
Piotr speaks fluent English and Polish, communicates in French, German, Spanish and Catalan and he knows basics of Arabic and Russian.

With a background in Product Design (Dipl.) and Industrial Design (BTech.), Tashma started her career in Vietnam, working with social enterprises on waste-from-landfill initiatives that trained youth and women-with-disabilities on regenerative ways to repurpose products and materials for income generation. Upon return to South Africa, she worked with several organisations and consultants in the sustainability space, assisting with communications and research. Tashma has worked with the African Circular Economy Network’s (ACEN), leading projects at the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF2022). She’s currently leading impact and education at Circular Squared – a network and think tank accelerating the circular economy through design.
