As South Africa embarks on its Just Energy Transition, ensuring access to sustainable and affordable financing is crucial to accelerating decarbonisation efforts. This webinar will explore the diverse funding mechanisms – both foreign and domestic – available to support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The webinar will begin by unpacking the key funding streams for decarbonisation, including carbon financing and green financing, and their role in making clean energy technologies viable. The discussion will then examine how these financing mechanisms intersect with Just Energy Transition financing to ensure equitable and inclusive energy system transformation.
A key focus will be Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which introduces new carbon market mechanisms essential for South Africa’s transition. Experts will clarify the differences between Article 6.2 and 6.4, highlighting how Mitigation Activity Design Documents (MADDs) pave the way for accessing international funding.
