The Gauteng Waterways Solutions Summit will convene researchers, industry representatives, community-based organisations, regulators, manufacturers, citizen scientists, and NGOs to co-develop practical pathways for the recovery of the province’s river systems.
This summit aims to:
Integrate knowledge for a systems-level understanding of the challenges facing Gauteng’s waterways;
Showcase innovative solutions and research-informed interventions;
Strengthen multi-stakeholder collaboration, with a particular focus on engagement with local industries and brand owners;
Launch a Community of Practice dedicated to data-sharing, learning, and scalable implementation.
The summit provides a platform for cross-sectoral engagement and collective problem-solving. It seeks to move beyond analysis of the challenges to the coordination and co-creation of enduring solutions, drawing on local experience, scientific evidence, extended producer responsibility (EPR), and collaborative action.
This initiative aims to support a more resilient, accountable, and coordinated approach to waterway management in Gauteng, anchored in evidence-based practices, shared responsibility, and long-term systems thinking.
