From Problematic to Circular Packaging: Best Practices for Addressing Problematic and Unnecessary Plastics

Start: June 11, 2026 - End: June 11, 2026

This webinar focuses on approaches to addressing problematic and unnecessary plastics in food and beverage packaging, with emphasis on circular practices and implementation in the South African context.

Stakeholders from the plastics value chain will share practical experiences on packaging redesign, material selection, and barriers to implementation, alongside international perspectives.

A case study on shrink sleeves on PET bottles will be presented. GreenCape, Secretariat of the South African Plastics Pact, has documented PET, PETG and PVC shrink sleeves identified as problematic due to their impact on recyclability.

The webinar is hosted by Plastic Reboot – South Africa, implemented by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), with WWF South Africa as national execution agency, in partnership with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and GreenCape.
